In each piece, she invites you to embark on a journey of cultural appreciation, colour, and artistic discovery.

Ali Anderson's current body of work, Where Colour Takes Shape, draws inspiration from the Indonesian Ceplok motif — a traditional Batik design built from repeated geometric forms. In this series, the classic squares and rectangles of the Ceplok pattern become the foundation for bold, abstract, and colourful compositions. Rather than filling each shape with intricate detailing, Ali allows a rich, carefully balanced palette to be the focus. The series comprises of six distinct patterns, each representing a different Ceplok family, with multiple variations explored across the paintings. Working with a steady hand and a deep sensitivity to tonal values, Ali transforms the repetitive rhythm of the motif into her own visual language — one that celebrates symmetry while embracing the freedom of abstraction. The result is a vibrant exploration where tradition meets contemporary expression. Ali is currently using Vinyl paint, renowned for its high pigment concentration and velvety matte finish.
